Head coach Eduardo Dias and his team from Garra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy, return victorious after competing in the 2010 Pan Pacific Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships Melbourne.
Over three days of intense battling and more than 800 competitors 3 of Garras’ best athletes conquer 4 gold medals in total.
Rafael Lang (Black Belt) was the highlight of the competition. The crowd came to a stand still with his amazing performance awarding him a gold in the Black belt – Gi middle-heavy weight division.
Helen Rowley (white belt) received gold in her weight division with Gi and Numia Fialele (blue belt) received 2gold in both the gi and no gi weight divisions. Both women showed a mix of creativity and technical ability that is important at this international level of competition. Head Coach Eduardo Dias comments “I am amazed at the performance of my team, especially of the women, I am hopeful that their achievements will encourage more women to join, this ever growing sport in Brisbane’s’ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community”.
Queenslands BJJ League (www.QBJJL.org.au) will host four official competitions in 2011. As we at Garra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy roll into a new year, we continue our training at a international competitive level to compete in next years competitions. We will endeavor to increase the level of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Queensland.
