Garra Gradings (Adults & Children) occur every 6 months however, this does not mean a student will grade on this schedule.
Invitation to gradings depend on the individual students development which focuses on consistency of training, attitude and personal conduct on and off the mats, respect for their teammates/instructors and of course their technical ability and overall performance including personal achievements
Garra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy gradings like those in Brazil are big events. The purpose is not specifically to test but rather celebrate individual training endeavours.
During a grading it is not uncommon for students to be ask to demonstrate random positions or answer questions about the philosophy of Jiu Jitsu. That said the decision is based on the collated effort of a student over the past 6-12 months of training.
Gradings are formal event however, there is still a relaxed and positive energy about them. It is an exciting and rewarding time for students to receive new belts or strips.
