Garra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy was created by Eduardo Dias. It is the first full time traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Brisbane to have a world class Brazilian Black Belt as an instructor.
The word Garra in Portuguese encompasses the attributes of focus, drive, attitude and talent. The capacity to overcome difficult situations, which embodies the philosophy our gym.
We are however much more than just a gym, we are a family that trains hard in the pursuit of perfection and to achieve our goals but with a continued focus on promoting a fun & friendly atmosphere. Come in for a free trial class and experience the difference.
“At Garra BJJ there are various different types of Jiu Jitsu students. There are those who love competition and there are others that train for other reasons like weight loss, exercise and character development. Jiu-jitsu helps develops confidence and social skills.
I respect and support any reason to train and encourage people to help each other during the classes. No one can win a fight without partners that help to go overcome our limits.”
Eduardo Dias
The mission of our school is to train the body, mind and spirit through the highest level of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction as a means for individual development and the strengthening of the family spirit – going beyond the competitive realm.
Inside a Garra BJJ School Dojo, there are no opponents. There are only training partners engaged in a cooperative learning experience aimed to make each other better not only as BJJ practitioners but as human beings.
To excel on any endeavour, discipline is essential. It is not different with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. At Garra BJJ the discipline of training and the willingness to sacrifice for higher achievements is reinforced in and outside the Dojo.
Inside Garra BJJ all people must act with warmth and equality toward one another, regardless of differences in gender, race, religion, nationality, etc. Respect for the hierarchy of the ranks is also very strong and the authority of a Black Belt is truly recognized.
